"What does a woman truly need in order to give birth joyously? She needs to be healthy, she needs to feel confident, and she need to be able to dive deeply into her own personal intuition without intimidation or fear. Often she needs guidance in some or all of these areas and that is where a doula comes in. All women deserve a doula!"
~BirthWorks International

What is a Doula?

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth.

Some of the benefits of having a doula attended birth include:
  • Shorter labors
  • Less complicated labors
  • Less need for interventions
  • Less need for drugs for pain management
  • Babies tend to be more alert leading to easier initiation of breastfeeding
  • A greater sense of satisfaction of the birth experience for both mothers and partners
